This website features many of my landscape paintings, some which date back to 1993. All of the landscapes depicted are places I have been to, or lived in. These places have had a remarkable impact on me, whether it be the wilderness of Tasmania, the extreme landscapes of Darwin and the Northern Territory, the gentle landscapes of Victoria, or the charm of urban Melbourne. My pictures are generally drawn ‘en plein air’ and finished in the studio.
Many of the pictures feature views from mountains - a subject I have been interested in for some time. I particularly enjoy the perspective being on a mountain affords me. The paintings done in Tasmania were directly inspired from various day and overnight hiking trips, I experienced annually for several years. Two of the Tasmanian exhibitions made a feature of the Cradle Mountain track. The secondary subject matter of these paintings includes an informal narrative of a bride and groom in the landscape. These mythical figures are added to the landscape to both provide a sense of romanticised imagination, and to highlight human kind's relation to the land. The third series (2008) is inspired from the South West Coast of Tasmania, where I have also walked. Click here to go to the Gallery 1.
